The College of Opticians of British Columbia regulates and improves the practice of opticians in the public interest by ensuring that BC Opticians provide quality professional care to help people achieve better vision.

Objectives
The College has a duty to serve and protect the public, as well as to exercise its powers and fulfill its responsibilities in the public interest.
The College has the following objectives:
- To oversee the practice of Opticianry and to govern the registrants in accordance with the Health Profession Act, the Opticians Regulations and College Bylaw.
- To establish standards of qualification for registration as a member of the College
- To develop, establish and maintain programs and standards of practice to assure the quality of the practice of Opticianry
- To establish and maintain standards of knowledge and skill and programs to promote continuing competence among the registrants
- To establish a Patient Relations program to seek to prevent professional misconduct of a sexual nature
- To develop, establish and maintain standards of professional ethics for the registrants
- To require registrants to provide an individual access to the individuals' health care records in appropriate circumstances
- To develop, establish and maintain programs to assist individuals to exercise their rights under the Health Professions Act, the Opticians Regulations, Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, and the College Bylaws; and
- To administer the affairs of the College and perform other duties through the exercise of the powers conferred by the Health Profession Act, the Opticians Regulations, or College Bylaws.
