Frequently asked questions
When is renewal and what do I need before I complete it?
All registrants of the College are required to renew their registrations this year by 11:59pm on Wednesday, March 31, 2021.
You are required to renew your license online by:
Submitting a
online renewal application
and your payment;
Ensure your
mandatory continuing education requirements
are completed (if due); and
Ensure your
criminal record check
is current or completed (if due).
Renewals that are incomplete or contain insufficient payment will NOT be processed and will be considered late if received after
March 31, 2021
.
Please make sure your email address is up to date on our College mailing list. You may login to your profile on our website to make changes to your personal information at
any time
.
What is the 2020 registration renewal fee increase?
for more information about the 2020 registration renewal fee increase. Also note that the College no longer accepts cheques as a form of payment.
What if I don't renew?
Failure to submit a completed renewal by the deadline will result in your license being suspended. This means that you’re no longer legally able to practice as a Dispensing Optician, Contact Lens Fitter or provide any restricted activities such as sight testing.
Members of the public can ensure a Licensed Optician is properly registered with the COBC by using our online registry or by asking to see a registration certificate which should be displayed in a prominent location at the workplace.
For information from the Registrar on the importance of maintaining your license, please click
here
for our Blog page, and read "Why You Should Renew Your Valued License".
When do I get my receipt?
Receipts will now be available in your online profile for you to download or print. Receipts will be available on your profile within 5 working days of submission.
